Social Media Star Alyssa McKay to Lead Scripted Romance Podcast “The Royals of Malibu” from Diversion Audio
LOS ANGELES, January 24, 2023 — Diversion Audio and production partner Pod People have completed casting on their upcoming The Royals of Malibu scripted podcast series with social media star Alyssa McKay joining the production to voice the lead, Ella Sinclair.
The actor has more than 15 million followers across her social media presence and is the #1 most-viewed lifestyle creator on Snapchat with 2.4 billion monthly views. McKay is known for her “Rich Girl” persona on TikTok where she’s amassed more than 10 million followers and plays a 17-year-old orphan from Fresno who is swept away from a life of sex work to the privilege of ultra-wealthy Malibu in this audio adaptation of the book Paper Princess by #1 New York Times bestselling author Erin Watt.
McKay joins a cast that includes Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin star Zaria as Ella’s nemesis, Savannah Gonzalez.
Rounding out the cast are real-life brothers Chris Cafero (Inventing Anna) and Nick Cafero (Minx) as Ella’s alluring step-brothers Reed and Easton Royal, Armen Taylor (Ghost in the Shell) as Callum Royal, their father, and Franchesca Agramonte (Lethal Weapon) as Valerie Gonzalez, Ella’s best friend.
When Ella moves into the Royal family’s Malibu mansion, she finds her new guardian’s two sons are both rude and magnetic. Perhaps the most intriguing is Reed Royal, the oldest. Reed seems determined to keep Ella from settling comfortably into her new charmed life amongst the rich and edgy kids of Malibu. And Ella is just as determined to come through it all with her soul intact.
The Royals of Malibu is described as Cinderella meets Cruel Intentions meets Euphoria and is written by Keyanna Khatiblou. Veteran podcast helmer Matt Sav (In Strange Woods) directs.
